Collaborative Business Modeling

Funding

IBM China Research Laboratory

Year

2005

Introduction

We plan to explore, enable and promote collaborative business modeling experiences through the enhancement and integration of both modeling and collaboration technologies in the context of IBM modeling tools (such as WBI modeler, Rational Workplace and Rational XDE) and service engagement practices. Business semantics technologies to facilitate the knowledge sharing and mapping are also an important aspect of the project. The mission of this joint study is to explore, investigate and verify the research ideas and give high level guidance for further research in this field. The focus of the research is not on individual collaboration technologies (CSCW and Groupware), but on the identification, formalization, refinement and enabling of collaboration pattern/paradigms in model-driven business practices.

Foreign Exchange Everyplace Access

Funding

E-Generation Technology and Research Center

Year

2003-2004

Introduction

This project demonstrates the application of wireless technology in a business scenario, namely the foreign currency exchange. The wireless technology makes it easierto trade foreign currency at any time any place. The demo is based on IBM WebSphere Everplace Access.

XML Data Translation and Communication

Funding

National 863 HiTech Plan, Database and Web Services Project

Grant No.

NO.2002AA4Z3430

Year

2002-2003

Introduction

As an data exchange format, XML provides syntactic interoperability. However, it lacks semantic interoperability. XML data need be translated semantically for successful exchange betwee systems. This project will research on XML Schema mapping and XML data translation methods and develop tools for achieving the semantic translation. In addition, current XML communication protocols such as SOAP lack the security and reliability capabilities. This project will also develop more reliable XML communication techniques based on existing protocols.

Next Generation Web Research

Funding

IBM Shared University Research

Year

2001-2003

Introduction

The project's goal is to to build a useful toolset. This toolset will help users to build and manage domain ontology, annotate the normal HTML Webpages, extract the knowledge from the annotated Webpages, build the knowledge base using the extracted information, and make inference according to the recorders stored in the knowledge base. The toolset will conform to related W3C standards such as RDF(S).

Representation and Query of Commodity Features based on Conceptual Graph

Funding

IBM China Research Laboratory

Year

2000-2002

Introduction

Commodity features (e.g. features of a apparel) sometimes are hard to describe using relational schemas. This project tries to represent these complex features using Conceptu Graphs. The CG representation will be automatically extracted from natural language descriptions of the apparel using machine learning techniques. Query processing then is based on the repository of CGs and the domain ontology.
