Shenghua Bao (包胜华)

Shenghua is now with IBM China Research Lab.

He was previously a Ph.D. student of Prof. Yong Yu at Apex Data & Knowledge Management Lab, Department of Computer Science & Engineering,Shanghai Jiao Tong University. His research interests include information retrieval, data mining, statistical learning, and semantic web. He graduated in 2008. The title of his dissertation is "Research on Entity Retrieval and Mining with the Web".

Finished

• Web Scale Expert Search (May 2007--May 2008): This project is sponsored by Microsoft Research Asia. Specifically, it focus on the problems of web scale expert locating, indexing and efficient searching.

• Expert Search at TREC 2007 (Apr. 2007--Nov. 2007): We are now continuously working on the problem of Expert Search which is a task of Enterprise Track of TREC 2007. The task this year is quite different from the ones in previous two years since new data is adopted and a mixed task of searching both expert and document is defined.
• Enterprise Search--Second Year (May 2007--May 2008): As a continuous project, it mainly focuses on the personalization and privacy problems within enterprise search this year.

• Enterprise Search--First Year (May 2006--May 2007): It is a joint project with IBM China Research Lab. I am working as the leader of the enterprise search project. It tries to study the issues that arise when searching information within an enterprise and build an effective enterprise search system to facilitate the search task. As for the first year, we mainly work on the problems of social search, social browsing, temporal event search, and low-rank based search.

• Expert Search at TREC 2006 (May 2006--Nov. 2006): Expert Search is to find experts on certain topics. I work as the leader of the team which takes part in the expert search task of enterprise track at TREC 2006.

• Expert Search at TREC 2005 (Jun. 2005--Nov. 2005): I worked as a main member of the MSRA team which took part in the expert search task of enterprise track at TREC 2005. Our team won the second place that year.
• XML data translation and transportation. (Jan. 2004--Oct. 2004): I was a main member for this project which was part of a key national 863 high tech project (NO.2002AA4Z3430) about web-based database services. I mainly took charge of secure, stable, and high efficient XML data transportation within the Web Service Architecture.
